Got a problem with my M3 - serious light leaks. Shutter curtain looks ... decayed! Need to get the whole thing serviced, but if I can't get the parts then I'm snookered.
Does anybody know if Leica still make parts for the M3 or is it a case of finding a donor camera?
Can anybody recommend a Leica repair service in Scotland?

I don't know of anyone in Scotland, but you could try these guys Here, although they appear to have a permanent 2 month backlog.
Alternatively, you might try Malcolm Taylor, I don't have his details to hand, but he does advertise in AP. If Malcolm can't sort it for you then there ain't much hope.

Morning Mark,
FWIW, I had the shutter curtain on my Pentax MX replaced by the shotter curtain of Leica rangefinder because Pentax couldn't find one so maybe 'tit for tat' ?
Cheers,
Jack

As far as I know the only part of the M3 that is not repairable is the rangefinder assembly, as it is somewhat complex, and was redesigned and made simpler for the M2 (and all future models).
It is of course entirely possible that replacing the shutters will cost you (nearly) as much as buying a "new" M3. Malcolm Taylor is very good (he did a Nikon F2 for me several years ago), but quite dear. From his handwriting, I'd guess he was a doctor in a former life!
Malcolm's details can be found here

No Tim, funnily enough he was an architectural draughtsman!

Ah, must be making up for enforced clarity then! Top man anyhow.

He has a global reputation!
The only repair place I ever used when I was in Edinburgh was Cameratiks, based at Camerabase in Morningside, and I know they do rangefinder repairs, but I nevr had them fix a Leica.

Thanks all. I've always used Cameraticks in the past for my modern kit and my TLR. Just wondered if there was a Leica specialist in Scotland. Happier to hand it over a counter than courier it somewhere, so Cameraticks it is.

You can always try The Leica Shop in Vienna (I know, it's not Scotland).

...or even drop it in at the factory in Solms, which is considerably closer.

Dropped the camera off at Camaratics (sp!) in Morningside the other week. They're going to give it a full strip back and replace the worn parts. Quite happy for them to give it a complete service and recalibration as it's probably never been serviced since it was new!
Fingers crossed it will survive the operations and be as good as new again.
