Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had ever had a camera repaired by Olympus, and if so how long it took before you got your camera back?
I'm having strange problems with my E400 which I bought in September from Dixons online.
I'm going to contact Olympus customer support later on today, hopefully I can send it directly back to them instead of sending it back to Dixons.

Hi Julie,
Describe the problems you're having; it's possible someone might have the answer.

Olympus's European Technical Centre is based in Portugal, and all camera repairs are carreid out there.
When I had my E1 repaired recently (after I dropped it!) it took a little under three weeks.
I hope that helps.

Hi Rob,
I bought the E400 in September, and it has worked perfectly until yesterday, when it developed 2 faults, which don't appear to be related but I think they must be as it would be too much of a coincidence if it wasn't.
Firstly, when playing back images on the the E400's screen, they will only play back very small, thumbnail sized in the center of the screen. Using the dial on the top plate will not zoom into the picture (towards the magnifying glass), when turning the dial in the opposite direction it works, showing multiple thumbnails.
More concerning are the appearance of lots of weird dots in the actual image. There are around 36 blocks of 4, placed in regular intervals throughout the image.
When zoomed right in it seems that each dot is made up of around 10 pixels, they are mostly bright green or red.

Thanks, 3 weeks is longer than I would have hoped, it's a shame it can't be repaired in the UK.

Economy of scale I guess.
I believe Cankon have UK repair centres, but they also have a much larger customer base, and in the case of Canon, a wider range of products to support.
I suppose we are rather spoilt in this country, knowing that most things can be bought/replaced next day, which is not always the case in some mainland European countries.
For once the Portuguese have an advantage over us, but at least there is no chance that your newly repaired Olympus will get overheated on top of an old gas fire that has just come in for service.

There should be a reset option somewhere in the menu system. Next, format your memory card and see if the problems continue.
Finally, does it make any difference if you record images in RAW or Jpeg?

Thanks for the suggestions, I have tried all of those with no improvement.
The images are the same when shooting raw as well as jpeg. I've tried about 10 different CF cards, formating them in camera before using them, they all work perfectly in my Canon 30D, I've also borrowed a couple of XD cards and tried them.
I've reset everything I can in the menus,

Looks like you've got no option but to send it back to Olympus then. I don't know how long you have had the camera, but you might be able to persude the retailer to swap if for a new one.
However, it might be worthwhile getting in touch with Olympus Technical support first.

I bought it from Dixons online, so I'm sending it back to Olympus directly, I emailed Olympus support the sample crop and they say to send it back.
This is the first problem I've had with any digital camera, and I've had a lot of them, I can't understand how it can go from working OK, then being carefully stored for a couple of months, to being faulty without anything adverse happening to it in between. It's quite strange.

Sorry you're having a stroke of bad luck Julie. It does indeed look like a job for Olympus to repair. Hope you get it back quickly.
Good luck!

Have you tried leaving the batter out of it for a few days after forcing a reset?

Leave the batter out? Won't that fry the chips?

Hi,
Just a quick update to say that I received my E400 back from Olympus yesterday, it's working perfectly now. On the repair slip it was a bit vague, it just says that the sensor has been repaired.

Well, that's what, two weeks? A touch better than feared - not too bad. Hope it carries on working perfectly, and enjoy it!
