D80/SB-600 commander mode..
      #720381 - 19/10/2008 18:54

Hello, a quick question for y'all..

I've been using my Speedlight remotely off of my camera, using the D80 to trigger it, but can I trigger the Speedlight without the D80's flash firing?

Thanks...

Go into custom settings menu, open "built in flash" item 22. Open commander mode and select built in flash mode --.
You will still get a slight flash from the camera flash but only sufficient to trigger the external unit. If this is still a problem Nikon do an IR filter (SG31R) which clips in the hot shot so that the camera flash emits an invisible IR command flash.

Hope this helps, Andrew

Many thanks Andrew, that's a perfect answer.

It's worth noting that when the on-camera flash is set to "--" in Commander Mode, it fires *before* the shutter opens.

It's SG-3IR (Sierra Golf 3 India Romeo), rather than SG-31R (Sierra Gold 3 1 Romeo), by the way.
