Sick as a parrot! dropped my d50. Had it on a monopod with 70-300mm lens on and it slipped about 1ft onto a hard grass track while i was adjusting my shoelaces! Took it into Lce and they charged just £10 to have it sent for an estimate(Jessops wanted £40) Heard from reparers today that the shutter mechanism needs repair...cost £105.75!...but they will give it a clean and service as well for that so i guess thats something! and lens seems ok Phil.

Check your household insurance - mine would cover this.

It would only be covered if you had the Personal Possession cover, sometimes called All Risk if it's your home insurance. Some speciailist insurance won't cover accidental damage at all. Hopefully your misfortune will prompt others to go and check their cover to ensure that it's the correct cover for their needs.
On the plus side, you would more than likely have had to pay an excess, typically around £75 for this type of claim, and if you work out the premium you would have had to have paid to cover this it's more than likely that you're not that much out of pocket if at all by not having insurance.
