D300 vs A700
      #710286 - 23/09/2008 21:15

Hi,
I am looking to upgrade from my Sony Alpha A100, and have been looking at either an Alpha A700 or a Nikon D300.

Been shown a D300, seems like a lovely beasty. Can I ask for your (unbiased?) opinions on the D300 vs the A700?

Wish i hadn't been to the shops now....lol

What will the D300 give you that the A700 won't?

And if you have several Sony lenses then you have to factor the cost of replacing those as well.

I don't see the point of the question. These cameras are not competing. They are aimed at different parts of the market. Given that you have already used Sony or Minolta kit I would say that if it has served you well then stick with the brand. Changing systems is expensive. Changing systems is also often pointless since all the main players leapfrog each other regularly. Sony now has to be considered a main player. I will stick with Nikon (and use a D300 which I find excellant), but I certainly don't want to try and convert you to Nikon.

Many thanks all for your comments.

Took the plunge and went for the 700 in the end. Was considering the 300 as i've heard great things about it. But as you all point out, with a large investmant in glass, would have been a nightmare.

Many thanks all

Paul.
