AP Forum to the Rescue

I've just bought a second 40D body and I realised before I started uploading the photos that I would end up with duplicate filenames. I did a search of the AP forums and found mention of a great piece of software called Downloader Pro. This does everything I need, recognising each body from the camera's serial number and applying a suffix to indentify files accordingly. Well chuffed.

Lol...why would you need a second body when all you use is your 100mm macro lens now? hehe.

The Canon software allows you to add the serial numbers to the file name. (found this out as I was having the same problem with 2 5Ds).

Though if you don't download from the camera then it's probably not the ideal solution.

Can you not just changed the prefix on the file name? I've just that on my D300 as it was prefixing all the lfies with "DSC_" just like my D70s. Haven't got an issue now.

I've changed the prefix to the folder name and added a suffix to identify the camera, so files are named 100_1234_1.CR2, which is nice.
