£60 for the 40D, £50 for the 450D.

Is it worth getting one now or better waiting to see what Canon come up with.

You pays your money and takes your choice. The 40D is probably due for replacement, if not at Photokina (23 Sep) then, possibly, at the end of the year. When the replacement does get announced it may not be available immediately and won't attract many large discounts.
If the 40D does all you need with it's current spec why wait?

Launch date according to Canon's museum site was September last year. If Canon stick to their 'normal' schedule of roughly 18 months then the next one should be due around March next year - which mysteriously coincides with the PMA show in Vegas............

mmmm 5 inch screen 15 megapix and a host of new options nobody will ever use.
