The world's number one weekly photography magazine
INTRODUCTION
The latest generation of digital SLRs now feature pixel counts that exceed 14 million pixels, Live View modes and dynamic range optimisation features as standard. When we tested the Pentax K20D (AP 12 April) and the Sony Alpha 350 (26 April), both cameras received the same score of 86% in their respective reviews. As both have similar specifications, we've decided to pit them against each other in a head-to-head test to find out which comes out on top. Pentax's K20D impressed with its superb build quality and handling, as well as excellent control over noise at high ISO sensitivities. However, it was let down by its slow autofocus, metering and Live View modes – all of which impressed in the Sony Alpha 350. Though aimed at slightly different areas of the market, they offer similar specifications, particularly their respective imaging sensors. I was interested to see, despite the difference of nearly £300 in price, how these cameras would match up.
