Title: Infected Landscape Israel: Broken Promised Land

Author: Shai Kremer

ISBN: 978-1-904587-59-0

Publisher: Dewis Lewis

Edition: Hardback

Maybe the work in this book will demonstrate the difference between a landscape photographer who enjoys his art, and a landscape photographer who sells his images as fine art for many thousands of dollars in galleries. Shai Kremer, 34, spent seven years photographing the military disfiguration of the landscape of Israel. You might ask yourself why he took these photographs. They may be beautifully executed, but after looking at 60 pictures of a defaced land, which includes an urban warfare training centre and a minefield, I begin to wonder. Are we meant to feel sorry for the Israelis or point the finger of blame in another direction? Some might say it's a self-inflicted landscape rather than an 'Infected' one. Yet in hard cash terms, a view of a minefield from an abandoned Syrian base on a chromogenic 22x28in print from an edition of 10 will cost $3,500.
