How do I enter the APOY Competiton?

It's simple. Every month we will announce the new theme, giving you full details on how to enter and that month's entry form. Read the rules carefully and try to get your entry in well before the closing date. We cannot accept an entry without a properly completed entry form. Although digital images are welcome, the nature of the judging procedure means that these can only be submitted in print form.

The competition is open to all amateur photographers. We want recently taken, technically excellent shots that fulfil the theme well, but which also have that extra special something. Entry forms will normally be printed in the first issue of the month, with results for that round published in the last issue of the following month.

Each month, the judging panel will narrow down the entries to 50. The judges will award marks out of ten to arrive at a shortlist of 30 pictures, all of which will be printed in the magazine. The three top-scoring prints will win first, second and third prize respectively. The top 30 images will be entered into our league table. After all ten rounds, the top scoring photographer will be awarded the title of Amateur Photographer of the Year and win £5,000 worth of Canon goods.
